Overview
Board membership is critical to a Board’s ability to support and generate innovation. This session will consider approaches to building innovative boards, both recruiting and retaining the very best. Additionally, boards can only fully prepare for and execute appropriate risk when they demonstrate deepening levels of engagement. This session will address the distinguishing characteristics of engaged board members and strategies for building that engagement.

Overview
The COVID-19 world pandemic has created crises on our campuses and has quickly and dramatically changed the landscape of higher education. Racism is another disruptive virus that reveals another pandemic that has been invading our country for centuries. These two colliding pandemics can be overwhelming, and there are lessons learned from campus responses to COVID-19 that can be applied to navigating the pandemic of racism and racial injustice.

Overview
Dr. Nelson will explore preparing a Board of Trustees for merger and acquisition conversations within the context of a framework for higher ed partnerships. Two case studies from independent colleges who have completed or are in the process of a merger or acquisition will discuss their approaches and learnings along the way.
