Gerry, a Senior Affiliate of Credo, assumed his former position of Executive Vice President at Elon University in June 2009. He came to Elon College in 1974 as an assistant professor in the department of mathematics. In 1983, he joined the administrative ranks as dean of academic affairs, and was later named vice president of academic affairs before assuming the position as provost in 1994. As Provost, he managed the internal administrative operations of the university and acted in the absence of the president. He provided leadership and direction for the long-range planning process, the annual priorities for action, and the budget. As Vice President for Academic Affairs, his responsibilities were wide-ranging, but included: intellectual and administrative leadership of the faculty and academic support staff, oversaw the development of the academic program and the assessment of student academic performance, developed and administered the curriculum, and developed and recommended the academic budget. Gerry has served as a member of several different SACS Accreditation Review teams and a number of consulting engagements. Gerry earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State University, and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
