Brief project description

Smith Hall, Doane’s all-female residence hall, underwent a much-needed renovation during the summer of 2010 utilizing Credo’s “90-Day” process. The entire renovation occurred during the summer break so that Doane wouldn’t incur any loss of beds or revenue during the project. The 1960s-era residence hall was transformed both internally and externally, providing a new look and character. In short, it was modernized for the 21st-century student experience. The transformation included a complete replacement of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, along with adding air conditioning and fire protection throughout the building. Exterior improvements included new fiberglass windows, tuckpointing, roofing, and adding an exterior plaza with a fireplace and life-size chessboard overlooking one of the campus ponds. To create a unique residential student experience additional features were included: amenity spaces, student social and study lounges, community kitchen, laundry rooms on each floor, residence life offices, and a business center.
