Michael Schuchert is a Research Affiliate for Credo who has worked in institutional effectiveness for the last 20 years. Prior to working in higher education, he worked at several associations conducting primary and secondary research on medical education, managed-care health outcomes, and graduate programs in sociology. Over Michael’s career he has led institutional research, assessment, and planning initiatives in a variety of environments including an independent, faith-based university, a for-profit institution, and a community college.

In addition to his work in institutional effectiveness, his experiences include leading regional accreditation reaffirmation efforts in both Southern Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), where he also served as a peer reviewer, and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). He has also worked extensively with data integrity issues through oversight of the registrar’s office and technology integration functions. Michael’s research interests include work in outcomes assessment of inquiry-guided learning and measuring and enhancing student success initiatives. He has presented extensively at SACSCOC, MSCHE, the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), the Society of College and University Planning (SCUP), and at the international Improving Undergraduate Teaching (IUT) Conference. In addition to his work with Credo, Michael is the Principal at Thistle Strategic Solution, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in data analysis, assessment, accreditation, and grant development for institutions of higher education. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Sociology and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Toledo.
