Many of us who study student success are familiar with the research and support related to learning communities for students and the positive results of this strategy when appropriately applied. Were you also aware that faculty are utilizing this approach - learning in a community - as they endeavor to improve their own pedagogy and effectively address the needs of a growing diverse population?
Many of our Credo community will know Dr. Bryant Hutson; as our Director of Research and the power behind our successful and growing research division. You may not know that Dr. Hutson is one of the nation’s experts in research and application around Appreciative Education as well as experience with faculty development. His most recently published article - The College STAR Faculty Learning Community: Promoting Learning for All Students through Faculty Collaboration - summarizes work and research he and his colleague, Dr. Holly Downs, completed with faculty around the topic of Universal Design for Learning. They utilized a learning community for faculty as their methodology and found impressive results in measures of understanding, application, and satisfaction.
